While the end of the corona quarantine is almost on schedule, the social partners in a joint statement call for rapid preparation for a “highly likely” further wave of corona in the autumn. The renewed overload of the health care system must be prevented, also for economic and socio-political reasons, the Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, ÖGB, Chamber of Labor and Industry of industry are calling on the government to take measures.
In addition to the demand to be involved, there are a few: from analysis of the protective measures and better collection and linking of data to more intensive wastewater monitoring and the provision of low-threshold, free testing capabilities to more air filter equipment in schools. The professional handling of state aid must also be prepared for possible partial closures – and the social partners also consider a new vaccination information campaign (for the fourth stab in late summer) necessary.
The social partners should also be involved, demanded Silvia Hruška-Frank, division manager of AK. The cabinet has not responded to previous suggestions, “given the increasing number of infections, it is now time to finally implement it”. It is important to include the population, “to communicate measures in a clear and predictable way,” noted WKÖ Secretary General Karlheinz Kopf.
Ingrid Reischl, executive secretary of the ÖGB, warned “that there should not be a huge additional burden on health and long-term care workers”. From the IV’s point of view, according to Secretary-General Christoph Neumayer, only “those measures should be taken that do not further burden companies in the already difficult economic environment”. From the social partners’ point of view, a new lockdown “must be avoided at all costs”.
