Investing in the Army – Modern Soldier Housing & Shooting Simulator

Date:

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner (ÖVP) officially handed over both the completely renovated soldiers’ quarters and a state-of-the-art shooting simulator, unique in Europe, on Monday at the Bruckneudorf military training area in Burgenland. A total of 4.1 million euros has been invested in this.

The cross-shaped building, stripped to its shell, dates from 1984 and was then in use for 37 years and therefore deserved more than a thorough refurbishment. In the basement there is now not only a shelter, but also an armory and washing and drying rooms for future residents.

Upstairs there are double and triple rooms, a classroom, offices and a lounge. The outdated building has been transformed into modern military accommodation for 104 people in a year’s time. Of course, each room also has an EDP and TV connection.

“It is my duty to provide the troops with the infrastructure that will allow training and exercises within the existing capabilities,” the defense minister emphasized in the handover.

Tanner also toured the new shooting simulator. The “Small Arms Tactical Trainer” serves as a training aid for learning, training and applying firing and combat training in squadrons and groups and is one of the most modern of its kind in the world. With the site in Bruckneudorf, five of these systems are now in service with the armed forces, with two more planned.
