Ancelotti: ‘Modric is a fantastic leader’

Date:

The Italian coach praised the Croat’s umpteenth play and also appreciated the performance of Tchouaméni, who was called in to replace Casemiro.

Carlo Ancelotti was no stranger to the proper name of Real Madrid’s win against Celta in Balaidos. Modric was the absolute protagonist of the match, for his role in the game and also for the symbolic ovation given to him by the rival fans, in recognition of his immense talent. “Modric is a fantastic leader for us. He scored the most important goal of the game because he came out ahead of us and everything has been easier from then on, with Celta suffering from our transitions,” admitted the Italian coach, who breathes calmly with the Croatian genius on the lawn.

The Italian also praised Tchouaméni, the man who monopolized all eyes in the run-up to the match, as he fell on his shoulders as a natural replacement for Casemiro, a tough task for a young footballer making his league debut. “He had some trouble in the beginning, but in the second half the ball came out really well, looking for the counterattacks. All three were very good,” Carletto said of the French defensive midfielder and in relation to the role of his midfield in general.

“We are trying to maintain a 4-3-3, although it is true that Valverde is not a typical winger. It helps us a lot in this position because we are more solid, when Rodrygo is there, the 4-3-3 is more visible,” concluded the white coach with reference to the drawing used, the same with regard to the European Super Cup and before in the final of the last champions.

Modric himself, chivalrously recognized by Balaídos after his substitution, which demonstrates his status as a footballer, acknowledged his satisfaction with the gesture: «An important victory on a field where it always costs us. When people recognize you in other stadiums, it’s a beautiful thing, it makes me really happy and I thank them for applauding me.

“The thing with Casemiro is a shame, we made history with him here, he has been a fundamental piece for us and we are going to miss him very much as a footballer and as a person. I am sad about his departure but it is part of football,” he added, referring to the Brazilian midfielder’s departure to Manchester United, the earthquake that has shaken Real Madrid in recent days.
