The fight for world number one in US Open suffered a revolution in a few hours, in the round of 16. The reigning champion and current leader of the ATP classification, the Russian Daniel Medvedevand the candidate best placed to succeed him, the Spaniard Rafael Nadalthey had a bye in New York in the fourth round.

The fifth applicant, the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, fell in the opening round. And another possible candidate, the German Alexander Zverevout of the bid because he will not appear again until the Davis Cup, after suffering a serious injury in the semifinals of Roland Garros.
