Félix Auger-Aliassime has qualified Canada for the Final Phase of the Davis Cup in Malagaafter defeating the Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3 and 6-4while the subsequent doubles match will decide whether they make it as first or second in group B.
The Canadian tied the match with Serbia at one, but this point would be decisive for a hypothetical triple tie, should Serbia lose and Spain win tomorrow, so the North American team is now among the eight best teams in the Davis Cup of this year.
Auger-Aliassime started the game in the cruise mode he left yesterday after his amazing victory over world number one Carlos Alcaraz and stood with a 4-1 start against a Kecmanovic who tried, without success, to take the initiative of the game. The Canadian only had his critical moment in the seventh game, where he raised a 15-40, and he did not make any concessions. The set was taken 6-3.
In the second round, the Canadian continued to show a good performance on his serve, not giving his rival an option and forcing Kecmanovic not to let him down. The Serbian knows that he cannot fail against a rival who, without offering the excellent tennis he showed against Alcaraz, continues to perform at a high level.
In the seventh game, Aliassime achieved the long-awaited ‘break’, which is synonymous with victory if he continues to maintain his level of service. What he proved in the next two games to close the match and the classification on a straight serve.
