The Prime Minister dominates Qatar

Date:

The English league is the one that contributes the most World Cup players, with a maximum of 127 footballers, to the tournament that starts next Sunday

The countdown to the World Cup in Qatar, on which all eyes will be on for almost a month, is still running. Thirty-two national teams, more than 800 players, will try to collect the most desired trophy. This Sunday, the typical national team tournament will begin with the match between the host country and Ecuador, the last team to present its selection list, at the Al Bayt Stadium in the city of Jor. The game that gets the ball rolling again with the aim of finding a new champion.

Outside of their usual dates, as Christmas has never been held this close before, the major leagues have been forced to halt their competitions. They won’t return for just over a month, when club football once again monopolizes the spotlight. The Premier League, LaLiga Santander, Serie A, Ligue 1 or the Bundesliga will be strongly represented in Qatar.

These major European championships will be the major protagonists of the national team event. In such a globalized world, it is common for teams to have more players from abroad than from their own championship. So Qatar and Saudi Arabia are the exception with their teams made up entirely of players playing in their respective local leagues.

The Premier League is clearly the big dominator, the tournament that contributes the most World Cups. Up to 127 top English football players will be in Qatar. All this without counting the internationals from their lower divisions, which would expand the list to an additional 28 components. Yet another example of his power over the rest of the major leagues on the European stage.

Haaland, perhaps the greatest of his stars, will not be in Asian countries, but a large part of his protagonists will not miss the big appointment of selections. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, Darwin Núñez, Kevin De Bruyne or Van Dijk will be some of the most prominent names on Qatari soil. British football will once again display the great dominance it has boasted in recent years.

The Spanish league, which is not having its best moment with Real Madrid as the only survivor in the Champions League, becomes the second with the most players in Qatar, 84 in total. With Barcelona as the largest exponent, since up to 16 World Cup players. his selection, almost all teams in the highest category of Spanish football have a representative in the World Cup. Only Girona and Elche cannot boast a World Cup player on their list of players.

Still far from the Premier League, the Spanish championship remains one of the most important references, including in national team football. Up to four of his clubs contribute at least a dozen football players to this atypical World Cup. Barcelona (16), Real Madrid (13) and Atlético de Madrid (11) occupy this podium, which Sevilla (10) came close to taking despite not having their best moment after a first third of the season that took them to relegation places led to be one of the great disappointments of this course.

The Major League World Cup podium would be completed by the Bundesliga, followed closely by Serie A. Up to 52 footballers from the top tier of German football will represent the German league, the team of which will include around twenty footballers from the local championship in Qatar. When it comes to clubs, Bayern Munich will be their big reference with no less than 17 World Cup players in their ranks, showing how good they are in Germany.

The role of Serie A in the major international football event should also not be missed. Even without the participation of the Italian team, which again fails after doing so in Russia, with what this means in a country with such a football tradition, the transalpine championship almost managed to win this particular bronze medal by 45 of send his players. Take comfort that it will be of little use to a country that has seen its national team, current European champions, win the World Cup on four occasions.

It will be another four years to see if the Premier League continues to reign at national team level when Qatar passes the baton to Canada, the United States and Mexico. Meanwhile, British football will continue to be the great dominator of the world stage and the great envy of the rest. The contribution of footballers to the World Cup is so far just the latest proof of the clear superiority it shows over the rest of the championships.
