Those of Duda beat Nueva Elda and expect a rival in the round of 16 of a competition in which they have high expectations
Jimbee progressed to the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey thanks to a comeback on the field from a team that gave Duda’s men a hard time, but for whom the game was very long and eventually fell to a rival two categories higher. Those on the Avenida del Cantón had to watch out, because the cup competition always brings surprises and four First Division teams have already fallen this season.
Aitor, Castello, Matheus, Castell and Amoros. They also played: Abel, Iker, Teruel, Díez, Luis, Castelló and Valdés.
Raúl Jerez, Meira, Lucao, Motta and Waltinho. Bebe, Javivi, Izquierdo, Juanan, Amin and Gallego also played.
Duda took the game seriously by lining up Luçao and Waltinho and the melon players started to dominate, but the local team had a higher intensity. Waltinho had a chance in an action from set pieces, but a great save by Aitor Ortega prevented the 0-1.
However, in a counterattack, when everything seemed under control, Elda’s men surprised Jimbee. A loss to Javi Mínguez led to a quick action for the local team in which Juan Castell masterfully defined, crossed the ball and beat Raúl Jerez.
Duda’s group was not undone by the blow. Shortly after the home goal, Motta unleashed a superb shot from ten yards out that deflected the visitors’ defense as the ball slid into the home goal. In the ensuing play, Luçao was about to tie the game, but his header went just wide.
Two great saves by Aitor Ortega from shots by Javi Mínguez and Jesús Izquierdo again prevented the melon players from scoring. There was a timeout and in play immediately after, Bebe found Javi Mínguez in a corner kick and he defined low to equalize.
He continued to put pressure on the Jimbee and on the verge of half-time Motta put his team ahead with a shot he was used to from the Cartagena Parish, very similar to the one that gave him victory against Levante at the Palace last Friday .
The 1-3 came shortly after the holidays. After a good play on the left wing, Juanan scored with a nice chip. Motta immediately made it 1-4 after an individual action by Luçao, in which he eliminated his rival in a fantastic way.
Nueva Elda didn’t give up and made it 2-4 with a brilliant goal from Carlos Díez, with a good shot from the halfway line that beat Raúl Jerez. Two minutes later, Aitor scored on his own goal and in the ensuing action Jesús Izquierdo took advantage of a theft to make it 2–6. The local team made up the score somewhat with a fantastic play that redefined Díez, but Jimbee eventually resolved the tie.
