The American J.essica pegula (3), the main seed that continues the tournament after the elimination of the Polish Iga Swiatek (1), did not hesitate to overcome the Czech Barbora Krejcikova (20) by 7-5 and 6-2 in the round of 16 of the Australian Open.
This is the third year in a row that the American, daughter of the magnate Terrence Pegula, reach the quarterfinals in Melbourne.
Pegula certainly made a name for himself at this stage in the 2021 edition when he reached the round of 16 unseeded and repeated last season where he also won both rounds in Paris and Flushing Meadows.
“The track was faster than the others and I think that helped me a lot. I tried not to give him enough time to find an angle and take me off the track. In this aspect he is good,” he explained.
The match became unbalanced at the moment where the tennis player from Buffalo (United States) converted his fifth opportunity to ‘break’ to establish 6-5 in the first round that would be decisive.
The third seed only scored two of the 13 break opportunities he could use in the first set which contrasted in the second where he got a positive three out of five.
His next opponent will be the winner of the match between the Belarusians Victoria Azarenka (24) and the Chinese zhu lin.
