Queiroz confirmed that he will not continue as Iran coach

Portuguese Carlos Queiroz has confirmed that he will not continue as coach of Iran, which he guided to the last World Cup in Qatar 2022.

The Portuguese coach, who committed to the Iranian team for the second time in his career in September, failed to qualify for the round of 16 of the World Cup, finishing third in group B, after losing 6-2 against England, defeated Wales 2-0 and lost 1-0 to the United States.

“As I embark on a new journey, there are many memories that I will hold with great joy. I would like to share my gratitude to my great players in Team Melli. To all my loyal Iranian staff, to the Football Federation and to all that They supported me and the “Team Melli Legacy”, Queiroz published on his social networks, where, on the other hand, he did not clarify his future.

Throughout his career, apart from managing Iran between 2011 and 2019, he was in Portugal’s lower teams, in the senior team, and coached teams such as Sporting de Lisboa, MetroStars, Nagoya Grampus, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Real Madrid , Colombia and Egypt, and was Sir Alex Ferguson’s second manager at Manchester United.

His record includes two U20 World Cups with Portugal and one U16 European Cup, one Cup and one Portuguese Super Cup with Sporting and one Spanish Super Cup with Real Madrid. With the leadership of Iran he was in the World Cups in Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022.
