Badosa lost to Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia Maia in the first round

Date:

the brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia (n.12) eliminated the Spanish Paula Badosa (n.20), by 7-6 (6) and 6-4, in 2 hours and six minutes, in the first round of the tournament of Doha tennis, WTA500, on the hard court.

The second meeting between the two allowed the Brazilian to match his record with Badosa, who defeated him just a month ago in the quarterfinals of the tournament Adelaide (Australia).

That was actually Badosa’s last game to date, as an injury prevented him from appearing in the Adelaide semifinals and, eventually, he missed the Abu Dhabi for a stomach virus.

Maia and Badosa had an even match, with alternations on the scoreboard and good shots from the back of the court. So, the first sleeve seems to have opted for the Brazilian side before this happened. And it was that a break in the Spanish serve in the fifth game led him to a subsequent 5-4 advantage and served to win.

});

But Badosa’s reaction came, punishing his rival with angled punches and managing to level the score at 5-5. The final decision came in a ‘tie break’ where the Brazilian went from a favorable 3-0 to 6-5 for the Spaniard, who had a set ball and his serve. He committed a double fault, sent a shot off, followed by a reverse also off the lines. Three points that gave the South American the sleeve, after 81 minutes.

The second set, with alternating breaks in games 2 and 3, lasted until the eighth game. He took it Maya, with a blank game on the opponent’s serve. He wasted no time later on his serve to kill the contest in his favor and sneak into the second round.
