He only won Olympic gold and a World Cup with the United States, but his career was marred by controversy on and off the field. Among other things, he was openly critical of his teammates and called Sweden’s players cowards in the 2016 Olympic quarterfinals.
“What he said to the Swedish players was a bit harsh. But he was right. We played cowardly, it’s true. You can describe it whatever you want, but we put the bus to defend ourselves,” says Lindahl, who later revealed that he wrote to him when he was older than a year old was arrested drunk.
“I wrote to him. If he saw the message, I don’t know. But I felt that he needed support, that he was a broken person who needed help to get out of there. When there are children involved, everything is something much more serious. I understand that he must have had a hard time in life. I hope you got the help you needed.”
