On Marc’s departure: “It was a pure and difficult medical decision. Not of a different nature”

He medical director of the motorcycle grand prix, the Spanish Ángel Charte, explained about the withdrawal of Marc Márquez of the Dutch Grand Prix of MotoGP that “this is a pure and hard medical decision. Not of another nature.”

“This morning, when I saw him, the small fracture increased, it moved a little more,” he detailed.

“This situation carries a risk because part of the rib moves slightly upwards and it can affect the parietal pleura and cause respiratory-type processes, so I decided that it cannot come out. It is a pure and difficult that medical decision. Not of a different nature, Charte told DAZN’s digital platform.

“In Germany, Marc had fractures, which were in the phalanx of the first finger of his left hand and a large bruise on his right ankle. At that time it was compatible with going out on the track, but he considered that. , after five falls, my body was a bit crushed”, recalls Ángel Charte.

“He came back to Madrid and three days later he started having rib pain on the right side. He went to the hospital, where they made some films that initially did not show anything abnormal. I saw these films. He came to the Netherlands and that made the pain worse.” , Charte continued.

“An ultrasound was done at the Quirón Health Center and we appreciated that there is a small fracture in the second right rib that is very annoying, when he repeats the movement and so on. Yesterday I was talking to him, he went out on the track, he had a slight fall he tells me that there are no consequences, but this morning, when I saw him, that little fracture grew, moved a little”, he added.

“It causes a risk, because the part of the rib moves slightly upwards and it can affect the parietal pleura and cause respiratory-type processes that made me decide that it cannot come out. It is a pure and difficult medical that decision. Not of a different nature”, he emphasized.

The championship doctor told Marc Márquez to “return to the hospital in Madrid, where they are treating him, and do a good CT of the rib cage, that they can see exactly the displacement that includes that fracture and thus act . accordingly, rib fractures are almost non-surgical. Very difficult. There is no such damage, but the truth is that there is an inflammatory component and above all the rubbing”.
