Laura Heredia, finalist in Krakow, will be the first Spanish Olympian in the pentathlon

The Barcelonan Laura Heredia This Tuesday she secured an Olympic place at the Paris 2024 Games in the modern pentathlon modality, entering the final of the European Games in Krakow, and becoming the first woman to compete at the Games in this sport.

In the final of the European Games there are 18 finalists and eight Olympic tickets contested, but a maximum of one per country, and only pentathletes of eight nationalities appear.

Heredia, 23, is the European under-24 champion of this sport.

Spain debuted at the Games in the pentathlon in London 1948. To date, 16 men have participated.

In Tokyo 2020 Aleix Heredia competed, after there were no Spanish representatives in either London 2012 or Rio 2016.

Italy, Lithuania, Hungary, Great Britain, Germany, the Czech Republic and France are the other countries that qualify for the women’s event at the Paris Games thanks to their results at the European Games.
