UEFA has just sent a communication to all federations and clubs of great importance and importance for the next season and in response to repeated problems related to the application and implementation of rules related to the price of tickets for visiting fans in its three club competitions: Champions League, Europa League and Conference.
UEFA clarified in the letter that it found various problems in this matter. On the one hand, the highest price of tickets for away fans in the Champions League does not correspond to the price of the cheapest category of tickets available to fans of the Champions League final clubs, which is the agreed base when it comes to the highest price in every competition. In addition, there has been a lot of misunderstanding about these prices when you shouldn’t pay a higher price than home team fans in a similar section of the stadium. And finally, UEFA observed that some clubs did not request all tickets for away fans, despite the fact that there was sufficient demand for these tickets from fans, just to avoid making the necessary relevant adjustments.
As a result of all this, UEFA, after a conversation with the ECA and the association of European fans (Football Supporters Europe FSE); has made several important changes that have been approved by its Executive Committee and will have immediate application to club competitions for the 2023-2024 season.
In such a way that local clubs must make at least 5% of the total UEFA-approved capacity of their stadium available exclusively to visiting fans., in a separate and safe place. The price of tickets for fans in the 5% allocation must not exceed the price paid for adult tickets in a comparable section of the stadium sold to supporters of the home team. This includes tickets sold to season ticket holders, to club members, sold as part of any promotion or promotional package of tickets exclusively for UEFA competition matches.
In addition, under no circumstances will the price of said tickets for visiting supporters exceed €70 in the Champions League, €45 in the Europa League and €25 in the Conference League.
All team away ticket allocations and ticket sales agreements, except those relating to the price cap of away supporter tickets, may be varied by written agreement between the two clubs involved. However, any reduction in the standard ticket allocation will only need to be agreed if there is a particular lack of demand from supporters of the away team for the match in question.
