Pedro Acosta: “My way of competing, my mentality and many other aspects have changed”

Date:

Pedro Acostafrom Moto2, has made a great start to the season, and his great progress, in what is only his second year in the category, has made itself felt, something that according to the Red Bull KTM rider Ajo is due to a change in mentality and his way to compete

“I see a very positive evolution. I came to the World Cup when I was young and I think the team helped me a lot, both on and off the circuits. My way of competing, my mentality and many other aspects have changed.”Acosta declared in an interview with his team, while affirming that he reached the second part of the season more prepared than last year.

Six podiums since the beginning of the year, four of them as champion (Portuguese, American, Italian and German Grand Prix), victories softening the bad luck and sadness that the French Grand Prix gave him, after falling at turn 7, with 10 laps left.

Acosta, who is currently second in his category, explains the secret of his evolution: “We are more focused on being competitive on Saturday and qualifying better. We are also working to make Sunday racing easier. In the end, that’s where points are scored. If I have to highlight one thing, it’s the big step we took in qualifying,” he said.

“It is important not to make the same mistakes as last year and to keep improving. We improved a lot in qualifying and read the races carefully. I think we’ve left behind a lot of mistakes, and that’s what makes us improve in all aspects. Aki helps me a lot”, added the native of Mazarrón.

Despite the great jump he made and the fact that he is considered a rising star, the driver stressed the need to improve his performance in wet conditions.

“I want to be more competitive in rainy conditions. In these last races, we were good at the start, but I wanted to do a little better at the start of the race and, why not, be more explosive in qualifying. These are the things we are improving little by little and we do every weekend”.

Regarding the next races, Acosta assured: “It will be difficult because they will be a very close race. Staying uninjured will play an important role in the title fight. I think we are better prepared for breaks than last year and, although I don’t think we did bad, then we were missing something. The season is too long and when it’s time to push, we’ll do it.”
