Great joy in the stadium, maximum frustration for it. Hundreds of fans had bought tickets online, some of which were too expensive, and were in for a nasty surprise. We show you how to defend yourself against concert ticket fraud.
“Our tickets were scanned at the entrance and it said they were invalid. It hasn’t just happened to us, it’s happened to a lot of people,’ says a ‘Krone’ reader. The dissatisfied attendees were sent to Ticketmaster’s “clearing” office at the stadium, which upon verification only shrugged, “Sorry, that’s fake.”
Bruce Springsteen officially had to pay 156 euros for a ticket in the standing room and up to 185 euros for the seat, depending on the category. The fans had bought the tickets on third party platforms like “Willhaben” or something like that. Sometimes at considerably high prices because the concert was already sold out: “The Boss doesn’t come to Vienna very often, so we didn’t care about the price. On the ticket sites like Ö-Ticket, there were none left within a few hours. What should we do it differently?” says one fan.
Ticketmaster staff lamented how frustrated fans say, “They said 400 to 500 counterfeit tickets have already been reported.”
At the request of the “Krone” on the evening of the concert, Ticketmaster confirmed that perfectly counterfeit tickets were in circulation in Vienna. To date, no victims of fraud have reported to the Vienna police upon request. This can also be delayed, as the fans first try to get in touch with their “seller” and ask for a refund.
