He french government will move 45,000 policemen and gendarmes to protect the opening ceremony of Olympic Games in Paris on July 26, 2024 which will take place on the part of the River Seine that flows through the center of Paris.
“We will be ready”, assured this Thursday the French Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Casterain an interview with France Info radio station, where he gave some numbers for that ceremony and insisted that “there are no worries.”
He recalled that in addition to the 100,000 paid places (in addition to “several thousand” free) to be placed on the river docks, the closest to the hundred boats that will sail with the 10,000 participating athletes, “several hundred thousand” expected in the streets bordering the Seine.
To ensure protection, he indicated, 45,000 law enforcement officers would be deployed, representing about a fifth of those in France.
Besides the Seine River stage, other celebration points will be set up where the opening ceremony can be followed on giant screens.
Asked about the high minimum price of 90 euros for seats in the docks, the minister stressed that “even at that opening ceremony, there will be many tickets that will be free.”
In more general terms, regarding the controversy over the particularly high rates for many of the tickets for the Games competitions, his argument is that this would allow the offering of a million tickets at 25 euros.
