Dani Juncadellathe official driver of the Mercedes AMG, came second in his debut at Bathurst 12h (Australia), the first race of the 2022 Intercontinental GT Challenge. The Spanish driver who ran alongside Maro Engel and Kevin Tse, along with the Craft-Bamboo Racing team, has completed a very solid weekend since last position in the race, for not being able to compete in the qualifying session, took #91 in the first position and crossed the finish line in the second position.
After feeling good during free practice sessions on Friday, the team saw a problem with the car that put its reliability at risk throughout the 12 -hour race. For this reason, the team decided to change the machine and did not arrive in time to conduct free training and qualifying sessions on Saturday. Therefore, the team was forced to start from the last position in the race.
Despite starting in the last position, Dani Juncadella and his teammates are clear that the career is long and they can fight for the top positions. And they do it that way. Maro Engel on his first stint, took the car from P19 to P13 and Dani Juncadella to P1 after just 4 hours of racing. From that moment on, they fought for the first positions until the end of the race where they finally finished in second position, just 8 ”707 behind the first, the #75 SunEnergy1 Racing Mercedes driven by Jules Gounon, Luca Stolz, Kenny Habul and Martin Konrad for a Mercedes treble that completed #888 by Van Gisbergen, Feeney and Ibrahim.
It was a very positive weekend for Dani Juncadella who added his third podium of the season, after achieving it at 3h of Imola’s GT World Challenge Europe and at 12h of IMSA’s Sebring.
Dani Juncadella will compete again this weekend, this time in the second race of the ADAC GT Masters season to be held at the Austrian Red Bull Ring.
