The RFEA will need to confirm the state of fitness in 2024 to attend the Games

Date:

The Royal Spanish Athletics Federation published this Thursday the pre-selection criteria for athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This will require confirmation of the state of form in 2024 in achieving the minimums, which will influence the athletes who have achieved the marks in 2023.

Athletes who have achieved the minimum World Athletics in 2024, as long as the criteria of three athletes per country and tests with quota marks are met, will get a passport for the Paris Games. Meanwhile, in reference to athletes who have achieved the World Athletics minimum in 2023, they must complete a more affordable RFEA minimum in 2024 to confirm that they are in good shape and, thus, guarantee their presence at the Games Game.

Also, RFEA minimums do not guarantee Olympic classification, as they are lower than World Athletics. That is, athletes who have RFEA minimums but not WA minimums will be at the disadvantage of having their classification closed by rank. In addition, RFEA scores must be made between January 1 and June 24, 2024.

There are exceptions for athletes who meet eligibility criteria. World Athletics but they did not reach the national minimum, an event that would allow them to rest in 2024. This is the case of the finalists in the World Cups in Eugene 2022 and Budapest 2023, the medalists in the European Championships in Rome 2024 and the 2024 Indoor World Championships in Glasgow. It affects, at the moment, Mohamed Katir, Asier Martínez, Mario García Romo, Eusebio Cáceres, Adrián Ben, Fátima Diame and Tessy Ebosele.

What the RFEA maintains is the “inevitable condition” that forcing everyone to participate in the Spanish Championshipswhich will be held from June 28 to 30 in La Nucía (Alicante), in the individual event in which they will choose to participate in the Olympic Games.

The champions of each event who meet the remaining previous criteria will secure their Olympic place, an important point especially for the tests passed by three athletes who meet the conditions.

When the classification period is over, and there is a certification of suitability of RFEA Verification Panel, A preview of the shortlist will be announced on July 3, 2024.

Regarding the relays, the five Spanish teams had to compete in the Nassau World Relay Championships (Bahamas) on May 4 and 5, where 14 of the 16 available places in Paris will be distributed.
