Japan’s Mone Inami, silver medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, won the LPGA Japan Classic women’s golf tournament with 22 under par this Sunday, taking advantage of the sudden collapse of her compatriot Nasa Hataoka, co-leader on Saturday afternoon.
Inami, just edged out by New Zealand’s Lydia Ko at the 2021 Olympic Games, lifted her first LPGA Tour trophy.
He started the first day behind Hataoka and Shiho Kuwaki. But he won thanks to four birdies and a bogey, carding three under par and 69 strokes.
Hataoka, who has won six LPGA tournaments, suffered a setback on Sunday. On his own course – he lives 20 minutes from the Taiheiyo Club Minori Course, where the tournament was held – he scored 74 strokes (one birdie, one bogey and one double-bogey) and fell to eighth place, four strokes out behind Inami in the final classification.
