The most controversial minute of silence for Israel’s victims: Ilias and Mandi stand aside

The fight in between Villarreal and Maccabi Haifa It was in the news before the ball even started rolling and it was all because of a controversy that occurred during the minute of silence for the Israeli victims of the conflict in Palestine.

In Cyprus as the headquarters, they wanted to pay tribute to the deceased but Ilias Akhomach and Aïssa Mandi, Yellow Submarine players, decided not to take part in it and they did not join the rest of their comrades in the middle of the field while honoring the Jewish victims.

The minute of silence was approved by Villarreal himself, who informed UEFA, as well as Maccabi Haifa and his own players.

Although both Ilias and Mandi are Spanish, the former is of Moroccan descent and the latter is Algerian, that’s why they decided not to share in this moment of silence.
