Want to put on an F1 show Las Vegas to continue to grow in the American market. And he got it. The weekend didn’t get off to a good start, with a sewer malfunction and the evacuation of the public before the lights of the Sinful city, a global satire. But this Sunday’s race achieved the desired goal and made everyone smile. freedom Average after your investment of 500 million in this event.
F1 2023 LAS VEGAS GP RESULTS
FORMULA 1 WORLD CLASSIFICATION
Race is everything Americans want, a riot full of emotion, achieved in a completely artificial way, something that should be of little importance to the local public. Put 20 F1s on an ice rink and the show is insane. They will not go as fast as possible, far from it, but the drivers will suffer behind the wheels, the risk of collision or accident will be constant, as well as the dance of positions and uncertainty. So it is. Max Verstappen won over Leclerc (2nd) and Pérez (3rd). Yes, the usual. But this Sunday’s victory has nothing to do with previous ones. The Dutchman seems to have lost the race. But in Las Vegas you can’t take anything for granted. And even less against the three-time world champion and current king of the ‘Great Circus’. Like the good guys in movies, he always ends up resurfacing.
chaotic exit
The start of the F1 Las Vegas GP was a clear example of how difficult the day was for the drivers. The track has lost all the rubber from the previous day, as it did on Saturday, as it was opened to traffic in the morning. Asphalt, in addition to being cold, has no grip. Is ice. And so, Turn 1 promises intense emotions. In this context, VErstappen overtook pole-defending Leclerc inside Turn 1 with a good start. Lacking grip, Max went too wide in that turn 1 and threw Charles. It looks like the Monegasque wouldn’t have been able to do that curve if Max hadn’t been there, but he says he went too far because the world champion forced him to do it. Verstappen was leading after the first ‘Safety Car’ but received a 5 second penalty.
Max has something against him
In another race, that penalty would have meant nothing to Max. He would have pushed, he would have pulled away effortlessly and he won after serving a penalty in the pits. But in the game city, Max had a hard time. It doesn’t have the superiority of other races and the Ferrari is stronger than any other day due to its speed in the straight and good handling of the ‘graining’ with medium rubber (a type of rubber degradation). So, on lap 16 something strange happened. Leclerc, with his Ferrari, overtook the Dutchman on the track, suffering from his tires. Max stops in the pits and has to try again in traffic, leaving the track 11thbut the 5″ penalty has already been served.
A valuable ace in the champion’s hand
The comeback does not seem easy, especially since this time Ferrari is a very strong rival, with a car up to the task. Verstappen seems to be struggling. He had very few chips left on the table against Charles who kept most of them. I need a lot of luck. Something that would change his day and give him a chance.
Call it the luck of the champion, but the most logical thing at a track like Las Vegas is that something happens. The race can change from one moment to the next due to any possible mistake by a driver which will cause the ‘Safety Car’ to be removed. But in this case, fate is more variable: An action in which Verstappen himself was involved that caused the safety car to come out would change everything. The ace Max needed to sign his best straight flush was his own creation.
Max, in the middle of a comeback, got past George Russell very aggressively, diving from home inside, but right. George must not have looked properly in the rearview mirror. He closed his eyes on that curve as if Max wasn’t there and they both collided. As luck would have it, the Briton’s car was damaged. Max’s Red Bull, in addition to being fast, is confirmed to be a battle tank in that corner. surprisingly, Pieces of carbon fiber left scattered on the track cause the safety car to come in and Max sees the light at the end of the tunnel.
Return of the champion
The race continued with 21 laps remaining. Leclerc took the lead ahead of Pérez, Gasly, Piastri and Verstappen. AND That’s where the Dutchman’s comeback operation began. Showing superiority. On hard tires it didn’t suffer from initial ‘graining’ and Max is holding a plane again. And fly. In 4 laps he placed third behind Pérez who had chipped away at Charles’ lead in the previous laps. “Let’s work together because we can follow him”, he said on the radio. And ‘Checo’ was no problem. Max is 2nd and close to Charles. It only took one lap to pass the Monegasque and take the lead. It was lap 37. With 13 laps left he was ahead. Since then, he has no opponents.
The day when everything seemed to be against him. After a 5-second penalty, without the superiority of other events, against a rival who might be at his level, he finally won again. Maybe it’s luck. Or maybe not. Max crushes the days when he has the best car. And when that is in doubt, he also ends up winning despite the difficult track conditions, the weather or whatever happens.
Leclerc passed Pérez on the last lap
The opposition that Max lacked was provided by Pérez to maintain 2nd place. The Mexican just missed out on the podium in Brazil in a ‘photo finish’ to Alonso and this time he also lost out to 2nd place in the final meters. Leclerc overtook him with DRS and his powerful engine and won the game a few corners from the finish line. Charles was 2nd and Pérez, 3rd. Russell crossed the finish line in 4th but his penalty caused him to finish 8th, thus giving free positions to Ocon (4th), Stroll (5th), Sainz (6th) and Hamilton (7th ).
Sainz, 6th and Alonso, 9th
Carlos Sainz has the car to be in that fight for victory and after the race his anger still needs to last. What happened on Friday, his accident in a sewer, something for which he was not at fault and the FIA and the organization, cost him the Grand Prix. A battery change due to that accident cost him a 10 position penalty which made him start 12th this Sunday instead of 2nd. Had he started 2nd, the Spaniard would have been in contention and Ferrari would have had two drivers to face Verstappen and Red Bull. But the reality is very different.
Starting 12th, Carlos Sainz spun at the start, on the inside of turn 1, where there was no grip at all. This puts him at the back of the pack. The same thing happened to Fernando Alonso, who started 9th. The safety car at the start of the race allowed them to stop early and put on the hard rubber. The race seems stalled for both, locked in a preliminary battle for a position too far back. Finally, the ‘Safety Car’ incident between Russell and Verstappen gave them wings. The race is reunited, they can stop for free and they start fighting for points in a real way.
In the end, Sainz finished in 6th position which should be considered good considering the start, but aware of the huge opportunity lost due to Friday’s sewer safety problem. He has been bound hand and foot ever since. For his part, Alonso was overtaken by Hamilton in the final laps and finished 9th, adding points after a difficult start.
