The Spanish Pepe Higueraswho coached Jim Courier, Pete Sampras, Michael Chang and Roger Federer, has received the Tim Gullikson award from the ATP which recognizes the career of a technician.
Higueras is the third person to receive this award, then Tony Rochein 2019, and Bob Brettin 2020.
The greatest achievement of the Spanish was included Changwhom he guided to the conquest of Roland Garros in 1989, the American became the youngest to achieve it, at the age of 17, and with Courierwhich he helped become world number one as well as win two Roland Garros and two Australian Opens.
Apart from those already mentioned, Higueras also cooperated Jennifer Capriati and with Mary Joe Fernandez.
In his career as a player, Higueras reached number six in the ranking, won 16 ATP titles and reached the Roland Garros semi-finals in 1982 and 1983. Together with Manolo Orantes, he lost in the doubles final at Roland Garros in 1978.
He currently resides in California, where he manages the José Higueras Tennis Center academy.
