Davide Brivio parted ways with Alpine Racing and forced a return to MotoGP

Date:

After a successful race in the MotoGP World Championship leading Valentino Rossi on Yamaha and Joan Mir on Suzuki to the title, among other achievements, the former team manager of both official teams, David Briviohas accepted an offer in 2021 to join the structure Alpine F1 Team and transfer his experience as a MotoGP manager to the F1 team. That partnership ended on Tuesday when the team announced that “after three years of collaboration, Alpine Racing will part ways with Racing Expansion Project Director Davide Brivio at the end of 2023.”

The Italian manager agreed to leave with the team that signed him at the request of the then CEO of Alpine Laurent Rossi, who was killed in July, although his friendship with the president of the Renault Group, Luca de Meo, was his great endorsement.

The signing of Brivio took place just after the great success the Italian got at the head of the Suzuki MotoGP project in securing the riders’ title for Joan Mir and the teams’ title for Suzuki in 2020. He left the ship of Hamamatsu just half a year before Suzuki’s exit from the MotoGP World Championship became official.

But his position in a rather turbulent period at Alpine ran out of content, he just took over from Sports Director to become Director of Career Expansion Projects, in charge of young drivers. Following the death of Laurent Rossi, Brivio began moving to return to the MotoGP paddock. In fact, it was offered to Honda a few months ago and then received a no from the Japanese leadership. But rumor has it that contacts have resumed in recent weeks. It is not known what position he offers himself, but in principle, team manager Alberto Puig has a contract with HRC until the end of 2024 and leads the post-Marc Márquez stage.

Brivio was at the genesis of what is now the VR46 empire, managing the affairs of the new Repsol Honda rider, Luca Marini, and Ken Kawauchi, who was his sports director at Suzuki, was also on the box.
