1. The best first round since ’83
Athletic have not had such a positive first round of the League in terms of results since the 1982-83 season, when they were proclaimed League champions. Clemente’s then lions reached the halfway point of the regular championship with a total of 11 victories (then a win means adding 2 points), 3 draws and 3 defeats in 17 games. Valverde’s men now have both a win and a loss, but two more draws in 19 rounds.
2. Top scorer at home tied with Girona
Athletic was strong again in San Mamés. After losing the league opener against Real Madrid, the lions have seven wins and two draws at home level. Valverde’s team and co-leaders Girona top the list of goals scored in their own half with 25 goals in their respective ten domestic games. At the overall level; Athletic has 36 goals, the same as Barça and less than Girona (46), Madrid (40) and Atlético (39).
3. Unai Simón played every minute

4. The lions occupied a European area from match day 3
Athletic hit the qualifying ground on the first day of the Liga by placing last in the table after losing 0-2 against Real Madrid. Their victory in the same result a week later against Osasuna took them to eleventh position and in third they rose to fifth after their comeback against Betis at home.
They have been there thirteen times with three falls to sixth place and eventual promotion to fourth after last Thursday’s 0-2 in Seville.
5. Four puppies made their debut in this League
Another notable fact in this first round lies in the debut of four puppies as Athletic players. Beñat Prados had the most participation with 408 minutes in 12 games, three as a starter. Imanol, who has three crashes already from the game and another coming in for a teammate, has a total of 259 minutes. Unai Gómez played 166 minutes in 11 games, one of them as a starter, and 2 goals. Jauregizar, for his part, added 12 minutes to the two appointments.
