Rumors force Midtjylland to comment on Olsson and his sudden illness

Date:

The Swedish midfielder Kristoffer Olsson was hospitalized with an acute brain condition after suddenly collapsing at home, his Danish club reported on Tuesday. FC Midtjylland. Olsson is on a ventilator at Aarhus University Hospital, the club explained, while a team of Denmark’s top medical experts work to make a diagnosis and start the right treatment.

Midtjylland said Olsson, 28, fell unconscious on Tuesday last week and was taken to hospital, where he was surrounded by his close family and members of the club’s staff. “Olsson is affected by an apparently chronic illness related to the brain, which was not caused by any kind of self-harm, nor was the cause due to external factors,” the statement read.

Midtjylland indicate they were “forced” to reveal information about Olsson due to “growing rumours” about his absence from the team. “All of us at FC Midtjylland are, of course, deeply affected by Kristoffer’s sudden illness and our thoughts and all our support go out to Kristoffer and his family.” Olsson has played 47 times for Sweden, most recently against Estonia in November. He signed for Midtjylland in 2022 in a second spell, having previously played for Anderlecht in Belgium, Krasnodar in Russia and AIK in Sweden.
