0-0: Mexico draw on Ecuador and extend the drought goal

Date:

The Mexican team tied Ecuador on Sunday without a goal in a friendly match in Chicago where they extended their bad offense, with a goal in their last three games.

Mexico started the game in possession of the ball and coming to the wings, but again lacked force in the 14th minute when Corona, from Sevilla, received the ball in the area that everyone was in favor of him and neglected the purpose.

After that move, which led to Corona’s departure from the game shortly after, Ecuador grew and created at least some clear scoring opportunities. In the 25th minute, defender Héctor Moreno saved Mexico with a shot by Moisés Caicedo and in the 38th minute, goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa got a goal from Romario Ibarra.

Ecuador, who were more closed in the first half, took the initiative at the start of the second half and in the 51st minute again left the possibility to take advantage of a header outside Ibarra, a player from Mexico’s Pachuca.

Mexico coach Gerardo Martino made changes to try to strengthen the attack; in the 60th minute Luis Chávez killed two rivals and scored a violent tackle from Caicedo, which resulted in a fight.

Mexico reappeared on the rival court in the 70th minute. Orbelín Pineda handed the ball to Raúl Jiménez, who almost missed a left footed shot.

Again in the 79th minute, Mexico missed the goal, with a shot by Jesús Gallardo, then Mexican fans repeated the homophobic shout in which the Mexicans were sanctioned on multiple occasions.

In the last minutes nothing much happened. Although they improved, Mexico delivered moderate accounts of their three friendships with the United States. Before the clash this Sunday, when they beat Nigeria 2-1, they were defeated by Uruguay 0-3.
