It’s been a few months since he Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya It falls into a renovation process in which about 50 million euros have been invested. The idea is to make the layout of Montmelo one of the best in Europe and for this reason there are important changes at some points of the route.
In the month of March, MD already had the opportunity to visit the facilities of the Catalan circuit and they have already announced that for MotoGP Catalunya GP Most of the work will be done. All said and done, if we compare the previous two months the difference is striking.
The Circuit assured in January, when the full remodeling was announced, that this important investment was not a response to the arrival of Madrid on the Formula 1 calendar starting in 2026. However, with the contracts with F1 itself and MotoGP in full negotiations, these changes favor the position of the Montmeló circuit. Starting with the option to attract more VIPs and sponsors.
One of the main goals of this renovation is to turn the Circuit into a facility where not only races are held but also the perfect place to celebrate events, fairs and/or concerts. In fact, as reported a month ago, the arrival of Fira de Barcelona as the operational manager of the Catalan route is also aimed at that path. Much of the Circuit’s revenue depends on Formula 1 and MotoGP GPs, but now they want to take another step forward to get more out of the facilities that have been running continuously since the early 90s.
RoofTop
The jewel in the crown of this remodeling. The building placed on the back straight, before the Estadi area, will not be run until the race. Formula 1 in June but it already has the entire structure built. The first floor will be set up for VIPs while the second floor will be used for events and exhibitions.
control tower
The Circuit control tower has also undergone changes. There are changes in the press room, briefing room, stewards’ room and hospitality areas. In March they warned that it would be ready for MotoGP and this is the result.
pit building
Large automatic blinds are being installed in the pit area while the terrace on the second floor will be covered and new spaces and rooms will be created.
VIP tribune
At the end of the backstretch, at turn 10, there has been a stand for many years but in 2024 it will be renovated to provide cover for the 1,000 people who watch the races from there. 500 of those seats are for VIPs while the other half are for team members.
In this building, as its name suggests, a huge terrace has been placed at a height of 30 meters so that those privileged enough to enter it have the best view of the entire third sector area.
