Carlos Alcaraz This Sunday he broke one of the unwritten rules of tennis: you don’t practice with your next opponent. The Spaniard, already scheduled to train with Francisco Cerúndolo ahead of the draw for the Queen’s tournament that paired them this Saturday, worked out for more than two hours with the Argentine, ahead of their clash, which was schedule for Tuesday.
Alcaraz and Cerúndolo agreed to practice and decided to keep it, despite facing each other in the first round at Queen’s. They have been friends for many years and know each other very well, and they had already practiced on these slopes last year, when Alcaraz became champion.
The Spaniard and the Argentine warmed up on one of the secondary courts for an hour before moving to the center court, where they played a practice set in front of the public, on the so-called ‘fan day’ of the tournament.
Alcaraz won the set 7-5, after breaking the Argentine’s serve twice and giving himself away once. In total, they were on the track for two hours and fifteen minutes.
After a little game against Cerúndolo, Alcaraz practiced some forehands with his coach, much to the delight of the crowd, who also took some signed balls as souvenirs.
The day ended with a photo in the middle of the court with ‘Team Alcaraz’ at Queen’s: Alcaraz, Samuel López, his coach, Juanjo Moreno, his physiotherapist, Alberto Lledó, his physical trainer, and Carlos Alcaraz father.
Alcaraz will attend the media this Sunday and will train again this Monday before his debut, which is almost certain to be on Tuesday.
