What’s better than debuting at home? Mari Boya details it this way

Date:

We’ve been waiting for Mari Boya in the Campos Racing tent for a while but in a strange situation like this Saturday at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, all is forgiven. Winning your first Formula 3 race is a compelling reason to get busy.

When he arrived and saw us, he invited us into the motorhome as if we were another member of the team and after a joke received from his colleagues, he started the conversation with a smile from ear to ear.

It was a dream week. Starting the week on Wednesday in the center of Barcelona with all the people, met Carlos Sainz, it was an incredible experience. And well, winning here is not only special for me but also for the team. Lots of people, lots of sponsors and family and friends that make it even more special. “I’m very happy and it didn’t all start as expected,” he said just to start.

The Sprint race itself is more about defense than anything else. Pressing between Trident left them with the option to win the silver and they just had to hold off those behind. As the Aranese tell us, everything is under control.

“I knew that tire wear would be key. And I didn’t expect the second one to have so much speed and I stayed at 33 medium which I thought was enough. But I saw that it was really close. When I saw it, I decided to add three tenths or four Without the final Safety Car my tires are still good.

“So much has happened to you that you dreamed of experiencing one day… You wouldn’t believe it. It was so special to see so many people. It has been an unforgettable day”

Accustomed to the peace he grew up with in Les (Vall d’ Aran), the environment surrounding a GP has nothing to do with it. But he will no doubt get used to the media attention that signals the start of a fight for important things.

The team change, key

In 2023, Boya is already in F3 with MP Motorsport but he is not sure if he will continue. Campos Racing gave him an opportunity and he is not wasting it. The Spanish team is a reference in the training of drivers and if not, ask Pepe Martí. For this, Mari is very grateful.

“My life has changed a lot. This is a team that is betting a lot on me. I am very comfortable here with the warmth they give me. I hope to continue with them as long as possible. Contracts go from year to year and depend on results but it’s important to maintain this line.”

conquering the jungle

F3 is a world full of young talents who need results like food to keep fighting for their dream. At 20 years old, Boya knows that to attract more sponsors and new contracts you have to offer results. Continuing to rise only on the support of the family supermarket chain is an impossible mission. But he didn’t want to put more pressure on himself than he had to by looking too far into the future. The key is to focus on tomorrow and he made this clear when we asked him if he already had any plans for 2025.

“Right now the plan is to focus the race on each race. The championship is so tight that you can’t lose looking ahead. This is a championship where almost nothing becomes regular, so I think I still have options to fight it.. “It’s time to always be in the Top5 and make the most of the car,” he said.
