After the first nine Grands Prix of the season, Pedro Acosta, competing in his first campaign in the main category of the Motorcycle World Championship, occupies sixth place in the general classification with 110 points. ‘Tiburón de Mazarrón’ was the first KTM rider overall and was on the podium in three Sprints and two Sunday races.
The Murcian joined MotoGP at the age of 19 and has Moto3 and Moto2 titles in his pocket. In 2021, the year of his World Championship debut, Pedro Acosta was declared Moto3 world champion with the official KTM team. And, with this same team, he won the Moto2 title in 2023. However, his story could be different.
In an interview given to ‘MOW’, ‘Tiburón de Mazarrón’ revealed that his path to the World Cup could go in a different direction: “After 2021, we are talking with Valentino Rossi, with MarcVDS and KTM about moving to Moto2. I remember we were halfway through the season, between Silverstone and Austria. I understood that, for me, the learning phase in Moto3 is over, because I achieved five wins and a few podiums in ten races.”
Pedro Acosta added, “I have my manager, a contract with Alpinestars and another with Red Bull; The change was not easy.. We talked and, VR46, there was a good option for us, but It’s difficult because of the sponsors. Even, “It’s great to talk to them and know they want me on the team”.
