CONMEBOL said on Monday it had made security recommendations that were not taken into account by the authorities in charge of the Hard Rock Stadium in the American city of Miami, where the Copa América final was played.
“As it is known, in the final played in Miami, fans without tickets went around the stadium, delaying the normal access of those who had them, which slowed down the entry and led to the closing of the doors ,” he says. CONMEBOL indicated in a statement.
“In this situation, CONMEBOL is subject to the decisions made by the authorities of the Hard Rock Stadium, in accordance with the contractual responsibilities established for the security operation. In addition to the provisions specified in said contract, Conmebol recommends to said authorities the procedures that have been tested in events of this magnitude, which are not taken into account,” he added.
In this sense, CONMEBOL regrets that “the acts of violence committed by malicious people have tarnished a final that was ready to be a great sporting celebration.”

The match started one hour and 22 minutes late after violent scenes broke out in the surrounding area caused by ticket-less fans who evaded fragile security controls at the entrances, leading to a near-total closure of the stadium .
Finally, the organization opened the doors and both people with and without tickets entered in an avalanche, thus exceeding the capacity of the venue.
