One million euros for women’s football

Date:

The UEFA will allocate 1,000 million euros of its income from competitions and investments to develop the women’s soccer on the continent for the next six years, as announced this Wednesday by European football’s governing body. The pledge is part of UEFA’s new strategy to grow women’s football, with money going to clubs, national teams and youth and senior competitions with the aim of having 5,000 professional players and six professional leagues in Europe by 2030.

“European women’s football has never been a better place,” UEFA’s director general of women’s football said in a statement. Nadine Kessler. “(It) has become a sport for the masses, attracting a diverse and ever-growing fan base and partners who wholeheartedly contribute to its growth.”

Women’s football has seen significant growth in revenue and interest in recent years, with the 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand generating more than $570 million. England’s Women’s Super League also generated record revenue in 2022-23, with more than one million people attending matches in the country’s top two divisions in 2023-24.

UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said the new six-year strategy, dubbed “unstoppable”, would lay the foundations for unlocking the full potential of women’s football. “Our dedication to the cause remains as strong as ever. Our mission is simple: to help women’s football gain a prominent place in the European sporting community,” he added.
