The 2024 season has reached its end, an ideal time to review the best and worst of the year so far. One of the novelties is the expansion of the twelve-day Masters 1000 tournaments, which are already five and in 2005 will have seven (all except Monte Carlo and Paris-Bercy).
That format is not to everyone’s liking. One of the most critical is Stefanos Tsitsipaswhich charges violently against ATP. “The two-week Masters 1000 has been a drag. The quality has definitely gone down. “The players are not having the recovery time or training they need, with constant games and no room for intense work off the field,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
“It is ironic that the ATP is committed to this format without knowing if it will actually improve the schedulebut also the quality. Paris did a great job, she did it in a week. It is exciting and easy to follow. Just as it’s supposed to be” added the Greek tennis player.
“If the goal is to lighten the calendar, extending it every 1000 to two weeks is a step backwards. Sometimes it’s like they fix what isn’t broken” he concluded.
