Mohamed Katirwho hanged himself bronze in the 1,500 at the athletics world championships in Eugene (USA), admitted this Thursday that he feels “proud” for “worked hard to get this medal”.
“I know that one day I will get this medal, because I have made good records, I have trained a lot for this, and I know that one day I will get it,” A happy runner born in Morocco, naturalized Spanish, who lives in the Murcian town of Mula, explained and pointed out that “I did not expect to make it to the world championship”.
Katir, 24, who was visibly happy, boasted of his “mind” after his victory: “I don’t put too much pressure on myself, for me the most important thing is to enjoy and fightleave knowing I’ve given it my all”.
“When I’m in a competition I have to give 100% it’s good or bad, but the point is to give everything”, assured the athlete, “broken” after the trip.
“I didn’t even think about success, but it’s a taste of glory, I think, of excitement and happiness, and I hope to keep this mentality and improve it next year, or in Paris” added Katir.
The young runner dedicated the victory to his parents, his girlfriend and his people, and he also remembered the Spanish fans with emotion: “Seeing our country, how they motivate and encourage us from home, we see it and always come out 100%because thousands of people are watching us, and we have to please them.”
With him, moreover, his rival and compatriot also returned Mario Gomez Romowho finished fourth, just behind Katir, in the same 1,500-meter race: “It was a bittersweet feeling to see myself so close to the medalsbut I am very happy that Mo won the bronze medal“.
“The sensations are incredible, when I arrive my goal is the final, and to see myself fourth in the world with the time I did will be difficult for me to understand,” said the athlete from in Salamanca, the third fastest Spaniard in history in the event.
The 23-year-old Castilian-Leon runner also launched a challenge for the future: “For European I want to fight to be European championThat should be the goal now because I see myself with many more options than the World Cup, I have the confidence and experience of big championships”.
