Suspect caught – woman (34) beaten at Graz train station ready for hospital

A 29-year-old man is said to have kicked and punched his partner (34) at Graz Central Station on Thursday evening. The suspect fled, but police, alerted by witnesses, arrested him shortly afterwards. The woman was taken to the intensive care unit of the UKH Graz, according to the Styrian state police she is not in life-threatening condition.

The police were alerted around 10:45 p.m. Passers-by reported that a woman had been brutally beaten by a man. Several patrols then drove to the main station. There they encountered a bloodied 34-year-old Grazer sitting on a park bench. The woman was dazed but conscious. She said she was attacked by her partner, who then ran away.

Punches and kicks to the head
According to witnesses, the 29-year-old pushed his girlfriend to the ground for unknown reasons, the police reported. Then he slammed her head against the concrete rim with full force and punched and kicked her in the head. The investigation in the UKH Graz showed that the 34-year-old had suffered a brain haemorrhage in addition to a fracture of the lower jaw, bruises and abrasions.

The police are asking witnesses to contact the Graz Police Department at 059133/65-3333.

The alleged perpetrator was discovered shortly afterwards and arrested in front of a hotel on nearby Eggenberger Gurtel. He has been taken to the police station. The man, who was under the influence of alcohol and drugs, has not yet been questioned.
