For much of the 20th century, Peugeot was a specialist manufacturer of a very specific type of car: sedans. Thanks to them, he strengthened his reputation as a
reliable brand, elegant and comfortablewith robust vehicles that offer a high level of driving pleasure and adapt to the most demanding terrain.

At the end of the 60s, the Leon began to conquer a higher segment with the opening of its “series 5”, with the arrival of the Peugeot 504, a model that broke through its peculiar aesthetics at its presentation in 1968, signed by Pininfarina , which would eventually leave its mark on all subsequent models of the brand. The trapezoidal headlights, inspired by the eyes of Sofia Loren, and the shape of the hood caused a sensation and impressed the market, as evidenced by its nearly four decades of commercial life.

the reputation of the company as a guarantee of comfort and driving pleasure, coupled with powerful engines and a precise, smooth and easy-to-operate gearbox. Characteristics that have since been “inherited” by all models of the brand, which earned it the title of “Car of the Year in Europe” in 1969.

In Spain, the Peugeot 504 was crucial for Peugeot as it became the first model of the brand to be produced here, the result of the creation of Groupe PSA in the early 1970s. In 1977,
the center of Vigo received this technologically advanced sedan on its assembly lines at a time when it managed to automate some manual operations. Investments in the factory were also made with the commissioning of two new warehouses (Painting and Assembly). The 504 was assembled at the Galician factory between 1977 and 1980 and reached 53,323 units produced.

Its successor, the Peugeot 505, made history for being the brand’s last large sedan to use rear-wheel drive, as well as for its road handling and durability over the most difficult terrain. A true forerunner of the new Peugeot 508… and of the brand’s current SUV range.
