Stellantis agrees with GME to supply cobalt and nickel for its batteries

Date:

The automotive group Stellantis has taken an important step to ensure the supply of raw materials for the batteries of its electric vehicles, after signing a
memorandum of understanding (“MDE”) not binding with GME for future sales of battery grade nickel and cobalt sulfate products from the NiWest Nickel Cobalt Project in Western Australia (“NiWest”).

NiWest is an advanced project by
nickel-cobalt development and will produce approximately 90,000 tons of battery-grade nickel and cobalt sulfate per year for the fast-growing electric vehicle market.

To date, more than A$30 million has been invested in drilling, metallurgical testing and development studies.
The feasibility study NiWest final kicks off this month. The proposed site for the NiWest processing plant is approximately 20 miles from Glencore’s Murrin Murrin mine, Australia’s largest nickel cobalt mine.

As part of the strategic plan
Dare Forward 2030Stellantis has announced plans to reach 100% of battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales in Europe and 50% of BEV passenger car and light truck sales in the US by 2030.

In this way, Stellantis plans to become one of the first manufacturers to lead the way in climate change mitigation and achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2038,
with a reduction from 50% by 2030.
