Honda presents the updated CB750 Hornet, one of the brand’s most legendary models
Honda has unveiled the all-new and highly anticipated CB750 Hornet, marking the return of one of its most legendary models to its range. Fast, agile and fun, the Hornet delivers fun in any situation thanks to an industry-leading power-to-weight ratio combined with the balance, stability and agility Honda has always been known for.
The all-new compact and lightweight 750cc parallel-twin engine packs a lot of Honda’s engineering expertise into a small package. The Hornet’s traditional high-revving ‘stinger’ is still there, with a maximum output of 67.5 kW (90.5 hp) at 9,500 rpm. Now coupled with strong torque across the rev range (peaking 75 Nm at 7,250 hrs) to provide a highly usable mid-range that delivers rewarding acceleration in any situation.
The new engine has been developed with the most demanding knowledge of Honda engineers. The 270-degree crankshaft and irregular firing order create a ‘V-twin’-like pulsation feel for maximum character and, combined with a modified exhaust, an addictive soundtrack. The ducts have a patented design that controls the inlet flow vortices (Vortex Flow Ducts), improving efficiency in favor of high precision response and acceleration. Both cylinders feature a nickel-silicon carbide coating inherited from the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade. Smart packaging and the Unicam 8-valve cylinder head layout bring all this together in one compact unit.
The new engine is embraced by the all-new diamond-type lightweight steel frame, which weighs just 16.6kg and is designed to take full advantage of the new engine’s performance. On-the-road agility and feedback to the rider is enhanced by a 41mm Showa USD Separate Function Big Piston fork, SFF-BPTM (Separate Function Fork Big Piston) supported by two all-new triple triple clamps. The fun factor is also maximized by a pre-adjustable rear shock that interacts with the new steel swingarm via ProLink.
Driving pleasure, functionality and pride of ownership are enhanced by an extensive list of premium specifications, headlined by a 5-inch TFT color display that displays all important information and manages all systems. It has connectivity through the Honda Smartphone Voice Control system for both Android and (for the first time) IOS devices. All lighting is LED; the self-cancelling turn signals also include the ESS (Emergency Stop System) emergency stop function for added safety.
