Toyota presents new Corolla Electric Hybrid range, featuring innovations in design, equipment, electric hybrid engines and safety equipment
Few models on the market can boast a better foundation for success than the Toyota Corolla. In fact, it is the best-selling car in history, with more than 50 million units, over 12 generations, since 1966. This ability to adapt to the times is evident today with the birth of the new Toyota family. While the visible changes to the exterior and interior represent a slight evolution from the design of the 12th generation launched three years ago, the innovations are significant in terms of engines, equipment and safety.
Featuring updated styling, the fifth-generation introduction in Q1 2023 of Toyota’s electric hybrid technology, a vastly improved digital user experience and a wider range of safety and driver assistance features with Toyota Assist. , the new Corolla family will become the central axis of the Japanese manufacturer’s range. The wide range of body styles includes 5-door (Hatchback), station wagon (Touring Sports) and sedan (Sedan) versions. The renewed Corolla Electric Hybrid family is now available for booking, with prices starting at 24,200 euros in the case of the five-door body, 25,800 euros in the variant with the Touring Sports family body) and 25,650 euros in that of the sedan. Prices that remain unchanged from the previous model.
The new Corollas have a more contemporary look, thanks to changes to the front grille grille, beveled fog lamps and new alloy wheels. The top moldings of the five-door and Touring Sports models feature new Bi-LED headlights. The GR Sport Premium versions also include the dynamic high beam adjustment system. Inside, the atmosphere is more modern, with new graphics, upholstery and finishes. Corollas are equipped with the fifth generation of Toyota’s electric hybrid system. The option to choose between two petrol engines remains, 1.8-litre with 140 hp and 2.0-litre, with 196 hp. Both include substantial changes to the petrol engine and electric drive, which improve the driving experience with more power, better performance and equal or lower CO2 emissions. The power control unit and lithium-ion battery are more powerful but smaller and lighter (18 kg less than the previous one), depending on version.
The total power of the 1.8-litre hybrid electrical system increases to 140 hp, resulting in a 1.7-second reduction from 0-100 km/h to 9.2 seconds. In the case of the 2.0-litre petrol-electric hybrid system, the total power has increased to 196 horses and the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h has been reduced by almost half a second, set at 7.5 seconds.
The GR Sport variant (from 29,300 euros) of the Corolla family, with a 2-litre engine and 196 hp, accentuates its style and sportiness, with unique design elements both outside and inside. The new GR Sport is equipped with new alloy wheels with a diameter of 18 inches, a different rear bumper and lower protection. The seats have an updated finish, with the GR logo engraved on the headrest, start button, instrument panel, tailgate or door steps.
This new 2023 version includes a new finish called GR Sport Premium, with high technology and comfort equipment including Bi-LED headlights with dynamic high beam adjustment, JBL premium audio system with 8 speakers, 10-inch head-up display projected on the windshield , blind spot detector with safe exit assistant, panoramic roof and exclusive new leather upholstery; Adaptive Variable Suspension will also be offered as an option.
The new Corolla Electric Hybrid family will be equipped with Toyota Assist, which combines the latest generation of the Toyota Safety Sense package with other active driver assistance systems. Some of the improvements in the function and functionality of the systems include the suppression of acceleration, which responds to sharp use of the accelerator pedal when driving at low speed, or the assistance to avoid collisions when turning at an intersection. Other driver assistance systems are the side collision prevention device or the speed reduction device when cornering. Another feature of the Toyota Assist system is the Safe Exit Assist, which activates an alert if it detects an open door approaching the path of a vehicle or cyclist approaching from behind and activates even if the door is closed to warn that we should not open it at that time if the system determines that there is a risk of collision when we do so.
The new Corolla Electric Hybrid family includes the latest multimedia innovations designed to enhance the user experience now and in the future, as new features and updates can be installed wirelessly. The largest 10.5-inch multimedia screen features high-definition graphics and an anti-glare mechanism, ensuring good visibility regardless of the light. On the mid and top versions, the instrument cluster has also undergone a remarkable transformation, with a new 12.3-inch instrument cluster that can be adjusted to driver preference in four different modes. The driver can also take advantage of a new onboard voice agent that recognizes natural requests in the conversation and thus can control the vehicle’s multimedia system or other functions, such as opening or closing the windows.
