Honda: CBR650R gets cosmetic updates to both color options that further enhance road presence and appeal

The CB650R received a major update for 2021. The biggest news was the addition of a Showa USD Big Piston Separate Function fork and 41mm SSF-BP (Showa Separate Function Big Piston), a high-performance suspension that really improves the bike’s handling .

EURO5 homologation for the engine was achieved without loss of peak power; Other detail improvements included better visibility of the LCD dashboard and a USB Type-C charging port under the seat. Headlight optics, side panels and rear fender were also updated.

With its four-cylinder engine clearly visible, the CBR650R’s fairing enhances its purely sporty appeal; the dual LED headlight casts a penetrating defiant shine and the upper and lower fairings combine muscular shapes with sharp, sleek lines and angles.

The seat unit is also compact and cuts out the rear of the machine, adding to the feeling of sporting power. The side panels accentuate minimalism, as does the steel rear fender and license plate holder. The aggressive riding position is based on the two-piece handlebar mounted under the top yoke and is complemented by the rear-positioned footpegs. There is also a USB Type-C charging socket under the seat for easy charging of a mobile device. The seat height is 810 mm.

The 649cc 16-valve DOHC engine has been tuned to deliver the cleanest, most rewarding 4.5-cylinder performance possible, with classic high revs pushed to the limits throughout the rev range and the rock-solid peak power that Honda inline fours are known for.

Peak power of 70 kW comes out at 12,000 rpm, with peak torque of 63 Nm at 9,500 rpm. A 35 kW option is available for A2 cardholders.
