This is the first helmet with an airbag

The latest innovation of the AIROH R&D department is inspired by the work of the young engineer
Roberta Decrovic and made in collaboration with Autoliv, the world leader in automotive security systems. This is the concept of the world’s first motorcycle helmet with an integrated airbag that can be activated electronically in the event of an accident, increasing the level of protection for motorcyclists, especially in the head.

The tests show how, by combining the two energy-absorbing technologies (helmet and airbag), the linear acceleration of the head and thus the risk of injury can be significantly reduced.

The helmet concept with integrated airbag was developed by AIROH with the aim of meeting safety standards regardless of the activation of this system, using the Autoliv airbag as an element to increase energy absorption and provide additional protection to the protection that though it is guaranteed by traditional helmets.

The airbag is inflated by a gas generator using technology similar to car airbag systems. The module is fully integrated into the helmet, covered with shells that can be opened and allow the airbag to inflate. The system is also able not to compromise the design of the helmet while maintaining the characteristics that have always distinguished AIROH products, lightness and compactness.

With this example, the future of motorcycle helmet safety has already been mapped out. The successful outcome of the preliminary study will lead to further tests and improvements with the aim of further developing the concept and possibly bringing a product to the market.
