Driving over this bridge with a coat can lead to fines on this bridge

Date:

Traffic doubles road surveillance and driving with elements that obstruct traffic can be penalized

The ‘super bridge’ of December has arrived, in which you can have 9 vacation days by taking three days off. It is the longest of the year and the General Directorate of Traffic estimates that
13.5 million journeys will be made in Spain.

As always when an event like this takes place, be it Easter or the holiday season, road surveillance doubles – it also coincides with the first week of December, when Christmas dinners and lunches are already being held – and the chance to fine is higher.

For this reason, doubts often arise whether we can be fined for wearing inappropriate clothes while driving. The truth is that the legal entity does not expressly prohibit wearing a certain type of clothing, but this means that it is in the agent’s interpretation.

Officially, the General Traffic Regulations stipulate that motorists
‘They are obliged to maintain their own freedom of movement’ (article 18.1 of Royal Decree 1428/2003), and to “maintain at all times the conditions to control their vehicles” (art. 17.1). So, to begin with, there are certain situations that can cause problems.

In the summer, this can be as simple as wearing flip flops – their shape means they can snag under the pedals and interfere with necessary control – or swimming trunks, which can cause seat belt injuries.

In the winter, as is the case during the December long weekend, the problem can be precisely the restriction of movement, with three main suspects: thick coats, thick boots and gloves.

It’s true that on frosty mornings the last thing anyone wants to do is take off their coat and gloves in a car that feels like a freezer until the engine warms up and they can force warm air out of the climate control system, but wait for that to happen before you risks a fine, which can be up to 80 euros, as it is considered a minor offense.

Jackets can affect the geometry of our bodies and the way they react in an accident. This also applies to toddlers who fit differently in their seat. They must also go jacketless while wearing their fastening systems.
