SEAT launches the Leon with the FR trim associated with the 130 hp TSI petrol engine to adapt to the demand of the Spanish market

With more than 2.5 million units sold worldwide, the Leon is one of SEAT’s most solid bets. The Spanish brand has evolved the compact in its four generations, always with a focus on constant adaptation to market demand, with new engines and technologies that respond to the current needs of its customers, who are the brand’s youngest.

Building on this philosophy and knowing that in the compact sector 38% of sales in Spain are made up of engines between 121 and 130 hp, the brand has decided to adapt its offer to remain a reference in the segment. For example, it gives the León more versatility and launches a new version with 130 hp in FR version: sportier, with five technologies and simpler finishes that make the SEAT range more efficient. Next to the FR is the Style trim, because together they account for 85% of sales of this model until June of this year.

Designed and developed at SEAT’s Technical Center in Martorell, the Leon is prepared for the future as it is fully connected, with state-of-the-art driver assistance systems and hybrid technologies. In addition, it contains a large number of connectivity elements inside and outside the vehicle.

In total, it offers no less than five different engine types, with environmental labels C, ECO and ZERO emissions. For example, the SEAT León is available with the following technologies: plug-in hybrid, with the 204 CV e-HYBRID and DSG transmission; micro-hybrid with 48 V system on the 110 hp eTSI DSG engine; 110 and 130 hp TSI petrol with manual boxes; 115 hp manual TDI diesel and 150 hp TDI with manual and automatic DSG gearboxes, and compressed natural gas with the 130 hp TGI engine with DSG transmission.

As far as standard equipment is concerned, the SEAT León is distinguished by its high technological level. The packages XS, XM and XL add a large number of technological elements with a great economic advantage for the customer. Available, only on the FR with DGS automatic transmission, the XXL package with traffic jam and emergency assistance.

The SEAT León also offers a list of individual options, worth mentioning are the electric tailgate with virtual pedal (only in the Sportstourer family version), the optional upholstery finished in Dinamica fabric or leather, the pre-collision assistant, the driver’s side airbag and knee airbag, a range of functional technology packages, such as the ‘Safe&Driving Pack’ with several versions available, the tow bar and three optional wheels to choose from. In addition, it comes in eight exterior colors: Red or White, Metallic White Nevada Silver Urban, Gray Magnetic or Red Midnight; and Custom paints such as Desire Red, with the great novelty of Graphene Grey, now part of the SEAT León range for the first time.

The new SEAT León 1.5 TSI 130 CV (96kW) FR XS is available for EUR 28,590 in the five-door version and EUR 29,880 in the Sportstourer version.

Thanks to the MQB Evo platform, the Leon offers well-executed exterior proportions, great interior comfort and the technological adaptability to implement its different types of mechanical powertrains, as well as great technology in dynamics, safety, connectivity and comfort. It is available with two types of bodies: five doors and a Sportstourer station wagon, with a luggage compartment of 380 and 620 liters respectively.

The smooth and flowing surfaces are combined with well-defined curves and edges that give this model great personality, without forgetting the careful aerodynamics. At the front, the three-dimensional effect is noticeable with its trapezoidal grille and LED headlights placed more to the rear. At the rear, the shape of the tailgate and spoiler create a sense of dynamism. Inside, the cabin is minimalist and elegant, with great functionality and a cozy feel. The sportiness and modernity is provided by a dashboard with smooth surfaces and some air vents that are fitted to the cabin, to which is added the ambient lighting that, in addition to decoration, performs a series of safety functions.

Finally, the welcome light catches the eye that says the word ‘Hello!’ projects onto the ground, giving this SEAT León a Premium sensation and facilitating access before entering the interior of the vehicle.

The Spanish brand offers great solutions for a fully connected vehicle that meets the needs of today’s world and digitization, with online functions and services, as well as connectivity outside the vehicle via the SEAT Connect app.

The infotainment screen, in the case of the 20.9 cm Style, is compatible with the audio from ‘smartphones’, while in the FR the 25.4 cm screen with Retina technology works with the NaviSystem system, with internet-connected 3D navigation and natural voice control, as well as Gesture Control to simplify user interaction. This system is included as standard in the access finish of the FR (XS).

In terms of voice recognition, in the new Leon it allows a natural understanding of the language for the user to interact with the infotainment system using natural commands, making it faster, easier and safer. And with the Full Link system, customers can also access their digital lives no matter which device they use: Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Similarly, the Connectivity Box system – standard on the XM packages, both the Style and FR – allows you to charge the phone’s battery via induction technology, without cables.

The online connectivity unit has an integrated SIM card, which ensures that the SEAT León never loses its connection to the digital world, and also enables the eCall service to contact the emergency services. It also allows some infotainment features to use real-time information from the cloud, such as online traffic, parking and gas stations, with up-to-date opening times and prices.

In terms of safety, it integrates a range of completely new and updated Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Among them is adaptive and predictive cruise control (ACC); the emergency, travel and lateral (or blind spot) assistant; the cross-traffic warning system when leaving the parking space and the door opening warning system, which together protect the vehicle and its occupants while driving and parking.

Emphasizes Emergency Assist’s ability to bring the vehicle to a complete stop on the shoulder or call 911 if sensors detect that the driver has no hand on the wheel or leaves the wheel for more than 15 seconds and the driver fails to respond to the audible and visual alerts that are triggered.
