Meta, owner of Instagram and WhatsApp, launches Threads to compete with Twitter on July 6, 2023

Date:

Meta’s president, Mark Zuckerberg, has assured that there have been 10 million downloads in the first seven hours after launch. At the moment it is not available in the European Union or for Android phones.

the tech giant Goalowner of applications such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, launched its instant messaging application on Thursday Wires(threads, in English) with which wants to compete with Twitterand that it won’t be available in European Union (EU) countries for now, apparently due to issues with EU data protection laws, nor in Android phones.

The launch of the new social network took place this Wednesday at 23:00 GMT, earlier than previously announced. The platform had been in development for some time, but Zuckerberg’s team accelerated its release in response to Twitter’s announced restrictions on the number of daily message reads and open content.

Exactly, Zuckerberg himself announced that there have been in the first seven hours after launch 10 million downloads of threats.

According to its creators, it is an application where “communities come together to discuss everything from the topics that interest you today to what will be a trend tomorrow”, allowing you to share ideas, opinions and creativity through text publishing. Likewise, it allows users to follow and connect directly with their favorite creators, as well as other users with whom they share their tastes.

Threads has an interface very similar to that of Twitter and the way it works is the same. Although Threads is a completely independent platform, it is related to instagram. So much so that to navigate through it, the same user account is used as in that social network. In fact, the same username and profile picture is used. Based on this, Threads has an option that allows users to automatically follow the same accounts they previously followed on Instagram.

On the other hand, another feature of Threads is that it is an open space that can be connected with others decentralized social networks like Mastodon, as it will integrate the ActivityPub protocol, although not at the time of release.
