May 17th is International Internet Day and this year the elderly are the main protagonists. In addition, the PuntuEUS Foundation is celebrating an anniversary this Tuesday: 10 years have passed since the application for the .eus domain.

Difficulties in understanding and using new technologies affect a group that together represents more than nine million people and represents 20% of the population. Moreover, as a result of the pandemic, the use of new technologies has increased and has become an essential tool for conducting online transactions.

For this reason, many Spanish companies, institutions and civil society organizations have prepared a manifesto and a decalogue to “facilitate access to and use of digital technologies for the elderly”. Under the decal of measures they propose, they recall the legal obligation of accessibility and absence of barriers in the devices.

Also on this year’s Internet Day the PuntuEUS Foundation celebrates that they applied for the .eus domain ten years ago to ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. The Foundation will remember those last 10 years, taking into account the journey of the .eus domain and the evolution of the internet.

In 2014, the .eus domain started with 92 web pages, and today there are already more than 13,000 registered domains.
