The GLC is considered the most dynamic SUV from Mercedes-Benz and embodies sporty, modern luxury in every detail.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLC is now more dynamic, more powerful and more durable than ever. It is available exclusively in a hybrid version, either as a plug-in hybrid model or as a version with partial hybrid drive with 48-volt technology and integrated starter alternator. Plug-in hybrids provide a range of more than 100 kilometers (WLTP). The GLC thus sets new standards in the all-wheel drive SUV segment. The systematic electrification of the GLC, the company’s best-selling model range, makes an essential contribution to lowering the CO2 balance over the entire life cycle. The new GLC aims for mobility with a neutral climate balance, as defined as the target in the ‘Ambition 2039’ strategy. Among the technical highlights of the GLC, it is also worth mentioning some optional equipment, such as Digital Light, rear-axle steering and new driver assistance systems. Its distinct off-road aptitude is reflected in features such as the option to drive plug-in hybrids with electric drive off the asphalt or the so-called ‘transparent bonnet’. The GLC will arrive at dealers in Western European markets in the fall of 2022.
One of the defining elements of the GLC’s design is the newly designed front end, with headlamps that visually extend the radiator grille and accentuate the width of the car. As optional equipment, Digital Light headlamps with additional ellipses for daytime running lights and new blue trim elements, as well as active floor lighting, also in blue, are available. The radiator grille typical of the brand’s SUVs is distinguished by a new cutout and a chrome frame. This frame consists of a sporty matt gray louver with chrome trim and the grille with vertical louver in glossy black. From the AMG Line, a radiator grille can be ordered with the Mercedes-Benz Pattern, a three-dimensional star pattern with shiny chrome surfaces. The new aesthetic chrome underbody protection at the front clearly accentuates the width and reveals the off-road character of the vehicle. The interior of the new standard GLC, which now also includes the Avantgarde line, sends out a clear signal to the occupants: ‘Welcome to the sporty, modern luxury of Mercedes-Benz!’ The passenger compartment takes the well-known and appreciated concept, adding excellent elements and developing them with their own shells.
The dashboard is distinguished by a clear division of zones and components. The top section, with an airfoil, supports new flattened round diffusers, reminiscent of airplane propeller pods. The lower section with its generously finished decorative element flows harmoniously into the curved center console. Another feature that accentuates the sporty look is the arrangement of certain components around the driver. The instrument panel faces slightly (six degrees) towards the driver.
In front of the driver is a high-definition LCD screen in a free-standing arrangement. This element appears to hang in front of the bearing surface and the surface of the decorative element. In this way, the size of the driver display clearly distinguishes itself from traditional cockpits with classic clocks. The screen is 12.3 inches (31.2 centimeters) diagonal.
The new GLC is available exclusively in a hybrid version, either as a plug-in hybrid model or as a version with partial hybrid drive with 48-volt technology and integrated starter alternator. The powertrain range consists of four-cylinder engines from the current Mercedes-Benz FAME (Family of Modular Engines) modular engine family. In this way, the engine range makes an essential contribution to the flexibility of the brand’s global production regime and makes it possible to achieve the objectives of demand-driven electrification. The power of the four-cylinder engines reaches up to 190 kW and 400 Nm of torque in the petrol groups and up to 195 kW and 550 Nm in the diesel groups. An additional 17 kW and 200 Nm of electricity will be added via the ISG.
