The automotive sector has asked for a clear public policy under the Global Mobility Call so that Europe is at the forefront of the transformation towards sustainable mobility
Sustainable mobility represents an additional turnover of 310,000 million euros, between 860,000 and 1.4 million jobs and an investment for all sectors concerned of more than 54,000 million euros by the year 2040, equivalent to 5% of Spain’s annual GDP, as revealed by the President of Ifema Madrid and CEO of Renault Spain, José Vicente de los Mozos, based on a study by the Spanish Association of Car and Truck Manufacturers (Anfac).
De los Mozos was responsible for analyzing the automotive and mobility sector in the opening speech of the Global Mobility Call Congress to be held at the Ifema Madrid fairgrounds. It is important for the manager to enter into public-private partnerships with the aim of stimulating recovery, making use of European Next Generation funds and based on the European Green Deal.
He would also like to thank all the public and private entities that made the Congress possible and recalled that multi-sectoral and cross-cutting debates will take place over three days, with more than 100 speakers and discussion tables, organized in a large hall and five thematic forums, more than Bringing together 300 experts.
One of the first events planned at the Congress was a roundtable attended by the General Director of the Association of European Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA), Eric-Mark Huitema, the General Secretary of Transport and Mobility, María José Rallo, and President of the Institute of Economic Studies (IEE) and Vice-President of the CEOE, Íñigo Fernández de Mesa. In addition to the partners of McKinsey & Company Rafael Westinner and Andreas Tschiesner.
At this table, the participants defended a clear government policy, so that Europe is at the forefront of the transformation to sustainable mobility.
For example, both the private and public sectors have called on European Union governments to commit to a tax system and regulation that is clear and that supports private sector investment.
In this sense, they all agreed that it is important to develop the charging infrastructure to accommodate the 60 million “green” cars that will be on Europe’s roads.
They also pointed out that Europe is in a “privileged” position, as it is home to the world’s most powerful auto industries, to become the leader in sustainable mobility.
“We need to combine the production of sustainable vehicles with the development of charging infrastructure,” emphasizes Huitema.
For his part, Rallo has shown his confidence that Europe is on the “right track” to be at the forefront of sustainable mobility.
While Fernández de Mesa has gone even further by pointing out that this kind of mobility cannot be achieved without private funding, as public budgets are “squeezed out”.
