The network will create the so-called Teen Account, so that fathers and mothers have more control over the content their children see. The accounts of people under 18 are private by default.
The social network Instagram launched this Tuesday his Teen accounta session that offers more privacy and more limits than traditional adult profiles, and only users 16 years or older can change some of these settings.
According to the network’s parent company, Meta, in a statement, some of the new restrictions include that “teens will have to accept new followers, and people who don’t follow them won’t be able to see or interact with their content,” and that they’ll also want to stricter message settings in which “they can only receive messages from people they follow or from people they are already connected to.”
Meta explains that “a setting is activated for teenagers limit the type of content sensitive (such as those showing people fighting or promoting cosmetic surgeries) that can be seen in sections like Explore or Reels.
Fathers and mothers will also have information and control over the time that your children use the application and that minors receive notifications warning them to leave the network if they use it for more than 60 minutes per day. You can also see who the minor has sent messages to in the last seven days, but not the content.
Between 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM, the minor does not receive any notifications, but does receive the bills standard private.
According to Antigone Davis, Meta’s Global Security Director, telling The Verge, they will be developed new tools to verify age of a teenager, such as by having users confirm their age with a photo or video showing proof of identity, or by having others vouch for their age.
The new account type goes live this week in the UK, US, Canada and Australia, and will be rolled out in the European Union by the end of this year.
