The organization compared the average prices of more than 10,000 stations between the months of February and May to determine the ranking
With fuel prices never seen before, finding a gas station with a reasonable price has become a difficult mission. Due to the sharp drop in fuel demand following the containment of the pandemic and the outbreak of war in Ukraine, prices skyrocketed to above EUR 2 per liter for both diesel and petrol at the end of June. For this reason, many consumers are looking for alternatives so that their wallets do not suffer so much from the effects, especially with the arrival of the summer holidays and the expected road trips.
To help them, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) compared gas station chains across the country to find the best prices. They studied more than 10,000 stations between February and May to calculate average prices, which allowed them to compare between chains, provinces and even those in the same city. The cheapest gas stations are listed with the index 100 for each fuel and the rest are relative to it according to their price level:
This study has established that BonÀrea is the cheapest chain in diesel A and petrol 95, located in Catalonia and neighboring areas of Aragon. It is followed by Plenoil, GM Oil, Campsa Express and Petroprix automatic gas stations. At the other extreme, the most expensive chains move between Repsol, BP, Petronor, Petrocat and Valcarce.
In addition, the comparison also shows differences per province, with Teruel and Lérida being the cheapest, with a saving of at least 5 cents compared to the average. It is followed by several areas of Andalusia such as Córdoba, Almería, Granada and Jaén, as well as the Mediterranean region of the region of Murcia and Valencia. Meanwhile, Asturias, Orense, Guipúzcoa and the Balearic Islands take the most expensive results.
To mitigate the effects, the OCU will ask the government to temporarily suspend energy taxes, including those on fuel. But in the meantime, they advise users to pay attention to the offers of some chains to try to save something on fuel costs.
